Turin, 7 Nov. (LaPresse) – Should Tehran decide to amend its nuclear doctrine, the necessary preparations would be put in place. This was stated by the spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, as quoted by the Fars news agency. “If the country’s leadership were to decide to review its nuclear doctrine, the necessary preparatory measures would be taken,” he explained, without specifying what such a review of the nuclear doctrine might entail. Last week, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, had stated that officials in Tehran were considering possible changes to the country’s nuclear policy, whilst making it clear, however, that no decision had yet been taken. Iran has always maintained that its nuclear programme is exclusively for peaceful purposes and that it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
