Rome, 6 Nov. (LaPresse) – Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Yisrael Beytenu party, has confirmed rumours that he has backtracked on promises made over the years not to enter into a coalition with ultra-Orthodox parties, stating in a declaration that he is prepared to compromise on his pledges to pass a law making conscription of Haredi men into the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). In a statement on X, Liberman said that the election results require Israeli political leaders to “rethink our course”. Liberman explained that the current political reality requires “difficult decisions” and “painful compromises”, reiterating three key points: “The Netanyahu era must end; Israel must not be dragged into new elections; no government should rely on the United List and Raam”, namely the Israeli Arab parties.
