Frankfurt (Germany), 5 Nov. (LaPresse) – “Ongoing investigations and further enquiries are being carried out to ascertain whether all the bomb threats reported in recent days follow a common pattern.” A spokesperson for the German Ministry of the Interior made this statement to LaPresse, commenting on the numerous bomb threats involving various flights across Europe. “In recent days, there has been an unusually high number of bomb threats against aircraft across Europe, both on the ground and whilst in flight. Several airlines and airports have been affected,” explained the spokesperson, adding that “federal and state security authorities are in contact with their European partners and the airlines”. As regards the measures taken, the ministry reports that, in the event of threats, “airlines, airports and the relevant police authorities at federal and state level initiate and implement appropriate measures to avert danger”. These measures, it adds, “follow international aviation security standards and procedures and may, in certain circumstances, involve diverting flights to other airports or allowing them to land as scheduled at their destination airport”. At airports, “the aircraft concerned may be subjected to checks to detect any dangerous objects, at the discretion of those in charge of police operations”; if necessary, “specialised units, such as bomb disposal experts or dog units trained to detect explosives, are deployed”. Furthermore, “depending on the need and the specific nature of the threat, passengers, luggage and cargo are also subject to checks”.
