Asunción (Paraguay), 5 Nov. (LaPresse) – The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, has announced his resignation following the scandal involving Ueno Bank. In a video message posted on X, Peña stated that he had chosen to resign to safeguard the country’s stability and its democratic institutions. “I have decided to tender my resignation as President of the Republic. I am doing so with the stability of our country, social peace and the need to safeguard our democratic institutions in mind,” said the President, who apologised but did not go so far as to accept responsibility for the banking crisis. “I would also like to apologise to the people if I have in any way let them down. It was never my intention to betray the trust placed in me,” he added, emphasising that his priority is to ensure that the bank’s customers recover their savings. “Behind every deposit lie years of hard work, sacrifices and family dreams,” he stressed.
