Turin, 2 Nov. (LaPresse) – Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever tendered his resignation to King Philippe during an audience, “following the failure of budget negotiations” during the night between Sunday and Monday; however, the King “has decided to suspend his decision and will begin consultations with the leaders of the majority parties as early as tomorrow”. This was announced in a statement by the Royal Palace. The King, the statement reads, also wished to “deplore the lack of an agreement aimed at providing the country with a credible budget capable of meeting current challenges. In a context characterised by significant geopolitical uncertainties and major economic challenges, the country cannot afford a prolonged political crisis’. The King, the statement continues, “therefore calls on everyone to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and urges all parties involved to prioritise the public interest and the spirit of compromise”. De Wever, the Royal Palace reports, will be received again by Philippe on Friday 6 November.
