Milan, 22 Oct. (LaPresse) – The US and Israel are drawing up plans for new attacks against Iran following the mid-term elections. This is according to The New York Times (NYT), which cites US officials as saying that the US and Israeli armed forces have stepped up their exercises, with aircraft flying over Iraq to simulate attack manoeuvres. The newspaper points out that it is by no means certain that Donald Trump will approve new attacks and stresses that a resumption of hostilities might not be any more successful than the first phase of the war, noting that Trump has repeatedly scrapped plans for a return to large-scale military operations. The New York Times also reports that Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week in Israel, and that targets could include Iran’s energy infrastructure, as well as its nuclear facilities and arsenal of missiles and drones.
