Brussels, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – “As far as energy and our sanctions against Russia are concerned, we imposed energy sanctions because of its war of aggression against Ukraine. And, given the current debate, I want to be absolutely clear: these sanctions will remain in place until Russia ends the war.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this in her speech on the conclusions of the European Council at the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg. “Furthermore, we must keep in mind the lesson we have learned: it was Russia that cut off gas supplies to Europe. Russia is not a reliable energy supplier because — as we have experienced — it is ready at any time to turn energy dependencies into a weapon to blackmail others. This is certainly a lesson Europe will not forget,” she added.
