London (United Kingdom), 20 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – The United Kingdom has announced an expansion of its military support for Saudi Arabia against the Houthis, including ‘defensive’ air patrols carried out by Royal Air Force jets. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting stated that Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets “will conduct defensive air operations over Saudi Arabia, helping to protect Saudi cities, the civilian population and critical national infrastructure from Houthi attacks”. He also clarified that the British aircraft will not strike targets belonging to the Iran-backed rebels. The announcement follows London’s decision last month to provide in-flight refuelling support to Saudi aircraft engaged in operations against the Houthis.
