(LaPresse) – A spokesperson for the political bureau of the Yemeni Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, has rejected recent statements by US President Donald Trump, denying that the group’s leaders had contacted him to ask him not to intervene militarily. Hazam al-Asad described Trump’s claims as “devoid of any real basis”. “Trump, the criminal, as usual, makes ridiculous claims and lies, recounting facts that are not true,” al-Asad said, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA. The Houthi representative then quoted an Arabic proverb: “Kiss the hand you cannot break and pray that it breaks.” Trump had claimed that Ansar Allah leaders had contacted him asking him not to intervene militarily and had said that “the Houthis do not want to fight us”. The US president had also blamed Iran for the attack on the Saudi oil pipeline and described the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as “a very dear friend”.
