(LaPresse) – Spain’s Audiencia Nacional has ordered an investigation into the mass arrival of people in Ceuta at the end of July, deeming it a serious attack on Spain’s territorial integrity. Investigating Judge María Tardón declared the Court’s jurisdiction to investigate the case, identifying possible crimes that compromise the peace or independence of the state, crimes against the rights of foreign citizens in connection with manslaughter, and crimes of criminal organization. The magistrate argues that “we are faced with criminal conduct allegedly committed abroad that has seriously attacked the territorial integrity of Spain, guaranteed by Article 2 of the Constitution, using for this purpose massive entry into our country, to which have been added irregular migratory flows that have seriously affected the lives and rights of the citizens of Ceuta.” In the order accepting jurisdiction to investigate, which received the favorable opinion of the prosecutor’s office, the investigating judge cites the report of the National Center for Immigration and Borders (Cenif) on the unfolding of events. The report shows that these were not initiatives of an incidental, occasional or spontaneous nature, but a process in which the migratory purpose would have constituted only a formal cover. The judge notes that, in the phase prior to the mass entry on 30 July, a situation had developed characterized by a steady increase in arrivals in Ceuta. It also highlights the particular importance of social media in the widespread dissemination of the call to join the mass entry.
