In response, NATO fighter jets were scrambled from the Amari base. This was reported by the Estonian Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, in a post on X. “The air alert was subsequently lifted by the Estonian Defence Forces,” wrote Tsahkna, emphasising that “NATO reacted swiftly and exactly as expected”. “The Alliance is vigilant and ready to protect the territory of its Allies,” he added. According to the minister, incidents of this kind are “a direct consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine” and demonstrate the need to increase pressure on Moscow to bring the conflict to an end. The incident occurred on the same night that Russia launched a new, massive wave of attacks against Ukraine.
