(LaPresse) – Italy’s “decision” to “impose controls on travellers from Spain” was “an arbitrary decision, caused by internal electoral politics, and was an unjustified and unjustifiable affront to the dignity of Spaniards and the unity of Europe.” Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said this during a hearing on the Ceuta crisis in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies. Italy has “adopted an arbitrary measure, imposed without consulting anyone. The Italian government knew that, given the double filter system in place in Ceuta and Melilla, the Schengen area was guaranteed, but this did not prevent the government from imposing these restrictions,” Albares added.
