Frankfurt (Germany), 26 Aug. (LaPresse) – “The Swedish police carried out a transfer to Italy on 11 August. As far as the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA) is aware, the person in question has been admitted to Italy.” Cecilia Gustafsson, spokesperson for the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA), told LaPresse this in relation to the handling of so-called ‘Dublin cases’ with Italy. “At present, there are no other transfers pending,” the spokesperson added, explaining that “the contacts the SMA maintains with the Italian authorities are the standard ones required for transfer procedures”. Gustafsson also clarified that “Sweden intends to proceed with transfers to Italy, provided that Italy has acknowledged its responsibility and is therefore the competent Member State in accordance with the provisions of the EU Regulation”. “At present, Sweden is experiencing a low influx of asylum seekers. We do not currently have any transfers to Italy scheduled, nor do we have exact figures regarding planned transfers for the future,” Gustafsson clarified. Sweden, the Migration Agency spokesperson noted, “has not carried out any transfers to Italy under the Dublin III Regulation since the end of 2022, following the notification sent by the Italian authorities to the other Member States regarding the temporary suspension of transfers to Italy, due to a shortage of reception facilities caused by the massive influx of third-country nationals”.
