This was announced by the authorities in Ottawa in response to the measures introduced by Washington following the breakdown of trade negotiations between the two countries. Among the products targeted by Canada are steel, aluminium, motorbikes, washing machines and tumble dryers, chainsaws, processed cheese, clams and frozen octopus from the United States. In particular, Canada will double tariffs on US steel and aluminium, raising them to 50 per cent – the same rate applied by the United States to Canadian steel and aluminium.
