Rome, Aug. 17 (LaPresse) – Pope Leo XIV, in a telegram sent to Archbishop Paulus Budi Kleden, Metropolitan Archbishop of Ende, expressed his sorrow over the earthquake that caused more than 50 deaths in Indonesia. The Pope, according to the text signed by Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, “learned with deep sorrow of the devastation caused by the earthquake in the region of East Nusa Tenggara and assures his spiritual solidarity and closeness to all those suffering from the consequences of this disaster, particularly the numerous displaced persons and injured”. Prevost “encourages the ecclesiastical and civil authorities in continuing their humanitarian assistance efforts and prays for the personnel engaged in rescue operations”.
