(LaPresse) – Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze has thanked Italy for the actions of its fighter jets as part of the NATO mission to monitor Baltic airspace, following the shooting down of a foreign drone over Latvia. “We are grateful to our Italian allies for their service in the NATO Baltic air defence mission and for ensuring the integrity of NATO airspace,” Braze wrote on X. “A foreign unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down last night by our Italian allies over eastern Latvia,” the minister added, accompanying the message with the flags of Italy and Latvia and the hashtag “#WeAreNATO”. The Italian fighter jets, deployed as part of the NATO mission to monitor the airspace of the Baltic states, are stationed at the Siauliai military base in Lithuania. The Latvian minister’s message was reposted by the Italian Defence Minister, Guido Crosetto.
