Damascus (Syria), 11 Aug. (LaPresse/AP) – A Syrian court has sentenced former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the 14-year conflict in Syria, which has claimed around half a million lives. Assad’s younger brother and a cousin have also been sentenced to death. The former Syrian leader is believed to be in Russia.
