This is reported by the Wall Street Journal and CNN, citing US officials with knowledge of the intelligence reports. The German government has not yet formally attributed the attack to Moscow. According to the Wall Street Journal, the drone likely belongs to the Russian government. CNN, however, reports that Washington has concluded the drone originated from a Russian intelligence service. The presence of Semtex explosives, according to a US defence source in Europe, suggests a military manufacturer. The drone, a quadcopter, was found next to a Ukrainian cargo plane with explosives attached to it. According to the German authorities, it had managed to bypass the airport’s defences and was only spotted thanks to an airport bus driver, some four hours after it had entered the area. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt spoke of a “new level of danger” and a “professional hybrid threat scenario”.
