Taiwan holds military exercises to simulate a response to a potential Chinese attack

Taipei (Taiwan), 5 August (LaPresse/AP) – Taiwan began its annual Han Kuang military exercises on Wednesday, designed to simulate a response to a potential Chinese invasion of the self-governing island, which Beijing claims as part of its territory. The live-fire exercises will test the Taiwanese armed forces’ ability to sustain defensive operations for 24 consecutive hours and to counter China’s so-called ‘grey-zone tactics’ – actions that fall short of open conflict. The urban resilience exercises will also test the population’s ability to respond to internet outages in the event of a crisis. The Han Kuang manoeuvres will last ten days and take place in various areas of the island.
