Iran: Cargo ship hit by unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz

(LaPresse) – A cargo ship has reported being struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman, in the latest security incident near the Strait of Hormuz, according to an alert issued by UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). This has been reported by international media. The cargo ship reported that it had been “struck by an unknown projectile” at 2 am local time, whilst it was 37 kilometres north-east of Al Khasab, in Oman. The town of Al Khasab lies at the tip of the Arabian Peninsula, which juts out into the Strait of Hormuz – the crucial waterway at the mouth of the Persian Gulf through which, prior to the war, one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas passed.
