According to the government’s latest update, 3,802 cases have been recorded so far, with 1,707 deaths. It is unclear when the outbreak will reach its peak, said the Director-General of Africa CDC, Jean Kaseya, during his second visit to the town of Bunia, near the epicentre of the outbreak. Kaseya warned that almost 80 per cent of new cases are not the result of contact tracing, but rather of community transmission. The Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is due to arrive in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, today and is expected to travel to Bunia later this week.
