Milan, 26 July (LaPresse) – The wind has once again fanned the flames in the French department of Gironde. The vast wildfire, which has ravaged the area around the Arcachon basin and is now threatening the outskirts of the Bordeaux metropolitan area, has burnt 42,000 hectares of land, as announced by the Gironde prefecture in a bulletin issued at dawn today. This was reported by BFM TV, which stated that the prefecture had specified that a 60-kilometre stretch of the A63 motorway between Bordeaux and Spain had been closed as a precaution. Specifically, the municipalities of Marcheprime, Le Barp, Biganos, Mios and Cestas have been evacuated as a precaution. This brings the total number of civilians displaced since the fire reignited last Wednesday in Saumos, in Gironde, to 220,000.
