Kyiv (Ukraine), 16 July (LaPresse) – The Ukrainian Parliament has approved the appointment of Serhii Koretskyi, head of the state-owned energy company Naftogaz, as the new Prime Minister, as part of a major government reshuffle initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The President had put forward Koretskyi as a candidate to lead the government, highlighting his experience in the energy sector and arguing that he was the best-suited person to prepare Ukraine to face another winter of war. The appointment was approved by the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament, with 289 votes in favour. The decision comes as hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside Parliament to protest against the removal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who had been in post for just six months. Critics have warned that the change at the top of the ministry could slow down the military reforms currently underway during the war.
