Milan, July 16 (LaPresse) — During talks between Israel and Lebanon in Rome regarding the areas the IDF will withdraw from in southern Lebanon, a proposal was put forward to deploy Italian soldiers to oversee the demilitarization of those areas by Hezbollah. This was reported by Ynet, which cites security sources stating that “the proposal is under consideration by the parties.” According to Ynet, during the talks held in Rome with U.S. mediation, it was also proposed that UNIFIL oversee the process, but both Israel and the United States strongly opposed this proposal, and in light of this opposition, the “Italian proposal” was put forward.
