Milan, 15 July (LaPresse/AP) – Another night of US air strikes on Iran. US Central Command (Centcom), which yesterday evening (Italian time) had announced the resumption of attacks against Iran at 9.00 pm Italian time, subsequently reported that the series of air strikes ended at 4.00 am this morning, Italian time. Meanwhile, in the last few hours, missile alerts have been triggered in Bahrain and Kuwait due to incoming Iranian fire – an event that has now become a daily occurrence, further straining the ceasefire. Jordan has reported that it shot down three incoming missiles. Tehran has claimed responsibility for the attacks on the three countries. “The US Central Command (Centcom) completed a further series of strikes against Iran at 10.00 pm ET (4.00 am this morning in Italy – ed.) on 14 July, striking dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and in Iranian coastal areas,” Centcom reported in a statement, adding that “fighter aircraft, drones and US warships fired precision-guided munitions at Iranian missile and drone sites, naval assets and coastal defence systems during this seven-hour wave of attacks, with the aim of further weakening Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian crews”. The attacks began shortly before the resumption of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, targeting vessels transiting to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas, which came into force at 10.00 pm Italian time yesterday evening. US Navy Admiral Brad Cooper, head of Central Command, stated in a press release that Iran had launched dozens of missiles and drones against neighbouring Arab Gulf states: “US forces hold Iran responsible for an unprovoked aggression that continues to endanger innocent lives,” said Cooper. There are at least 19 US warships in the Arabian Sea, including two aircraft carriers and an amphibious assault ship carrying over 1,000 Marines. Central Command also stated in a social media post that there are “hundreds of military aircraft operating across the Middle East”.
