This is reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr, which states that the parties are working on a draft memorandum of understanding. The document is said to include the lifting of oil sanctions against Tehran, the release of Iranian funds frozen abroad, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a US commitment to reduce its military presence in areas surrounding Iran. According to Iranian media, the talks will not cover Tehran’s ballistic missile programme, one of the most sensitive issues in relations with Washington. Any agreement remains, however, subject to approval by the relevant authorities in both countries.
