Rome, May 22 (LaPresse) – “We call on the Government of Israel to halt the expansion of settlements and administrative powers, to ensure accountability for violence perpetrated by settlers and to investigate allegations against Israeli forces, to respect the Hashemite custodianship of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem and the historic status quo agreements, and to lift financial restrictions on the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian economy.” This is stated in a joint declaration by Italy, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany on the situation in the West Bank. “We firmly oppose those, including members of the Israeli government, who advocate annexation and the forced displacement of the Palestinian population,” the declaration further states. “We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on a negotiated two-state solution, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, in which two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace and security within secure and recognized borders,” conclude Italy, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
