Madrid (Spain), May 22 (LaPresse) – Spanish passengers who were aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius and who have tested negative for hantavirus will be able to complete their quarantine at home following an initial period of hospital monitoring. Spanish health authorities have updated the protocol for monitoring the hantavirus outbreak and determined that individuals under observation who have remained asymptomatic and tested negative on the PCR test during the first 28 days of hospital quarantine may continue observation at home until the completion of the maximum 42-day incubation period. The protocol specifies that this option is available only if the home meets the necessary requirements to ensure isolation and health safety. Among the established requirements are the availability of a well-ventilated single room and, preferably, a private bathroom, as well as the guarantee of constant communication with health authorities via telephone or the internet.
