Rome, 18 May (LaPresse) – The bail of 140 million hryvnia (€2.7 million) required for the release of the former head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, has been paid in full. This was reported by the press office of the Ukrainian High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS), according to the Unian news agency. The court stated that it had no information regarding the identity of the person who made the payment or the source of the funds. According to local media, Yermak left the remand centre at around 10.40 am today, local time. The judicial authorities explained that bail payments can also be made at weekends, but verification of the actual availability of funds takes place only on working days. For this reason, despite the fundraising campaign already being underway, Yermak spent 16 and 17 May in pre-trial detention. Yermak’s lawyer, Igor Fomin, stated that the sum could have been raised as early as the evening of 15 May, but that the transfer was delayed “by financial monitoring and the peculiarities of the banking system”, which, according to the lawyer, “has difficulty accepting” payments of such a magnitude.
