Ukraine, Zelensky: ‘Wheat stolen by Russia is in Israel; we are preparing sanctions’

Milan, 28 April (LaPresse) – “The purchase of stolen goods is, in any normal country, an act that entails legal liability. This applies, in particular, to wheat stolen from Russia. Another ship carrying such wheat has arrived at an Israeli port and is about to be unloaded. This is not, nor can it be, a mere business transaction. The Israeli authorities cannot ignore which ships and what cargo arrive in the country’s ports.” This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in a social media post. ‘Based on information provided by our intelligence services, Ukraine is preparing a package of sanctions that will target both those directly transporting this grain and the individuals and entities seeking to profit from this criminal scheme,’ he adds, ‘we will also coordinate with our European partners to ensure that those involved are included in European sanctions regimes.’ ‘Russia is systematically removing grain from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories and organising its export through entities linked to the occupiers. Such operations violate the legislation of the State of Israel itself,’ Zelensky’s post continues, “Ukraine has taken all necessary measures through diplomatic channels to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. However, we note that once again a vessel of this kind has not been stopped. I have instructed the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform all of our country’s partners of the situation.”
