Iran, Tajani: ‘A prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz could also lead to an increase in migrant flows’

Rome, 2 April (LaPresse) – The closure of the Strait of Hormuz “is a significant problem. Following this meeting, there will be another with the foreign ministers of various countries to discuss what to do; it is not easy.” This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking at the 16th Joint Conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bank of Italy at the Farnesina. “We are grappling with high energy prices but also with the block on fertilisers,” he added, emphasising that the latter issue is also very important for African countries. “A crisis of this kind,” explained Tajani, “would lead to an increase in migration flows.”
