Seoul (South Korea), 14 March (LaPresse/AP) – Around ten ballistic missiles were reportedly launched by North Korea towards the Sea of Japan, according to the South Korean armed forces, in a show of force carried out to coincide with a joint military exercise between South Korea and the United States. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the missiles were launched from an area near the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. The Japanese Ministry of Defence said the missiles fell into waters outside the country’s exclusive economic zone. North Korea has long maintained that joint exercises between the United States and South Korea are rehearsals for invasion and has used them to justify missile tests and other military demonstrations.
