Rome, 11 March (LaPresse/AP) – With 13 votes in favour and none against, the UN Security Council condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries. China and Russia, two allies of Tehran, abstained, allowing the text to be approved without resorting to their veto power. The draft resolution, supported by more than 130 member states, condemns Iran’s attacks against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, calling them a violation of international law and ‘a serious threat to international peace and security.’ ‘The message is clear,’ said Bahrain’s ambassador to the United Nations, Janal Alrowaiei. ‘The international community is determined to reject these Iranian attacks against sovereign countries that threaten the stability of peoples, especially in a region of strategic importance to the global economy, energy, security and global trade security.’
