Iran, Turkey: “Rubio denies plan for Iraqi Kurdish incursion”

Ankara (Turkey), Mar 7 (LaPresse) – Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that he spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who affirmed that a plan for an attack on Iran by Iranian Kurdish forces based in northern Iraq “is not in their intentions.” During a press conference in Istanbul, Fidan said that Rubio made these comments during a recent phone call. The minister instead accused Israel of using Kurdish groups as “proxies” in the region. Strategies that “aim to create ethnic rivalries or ethnic conflicts in Iran would be something we oppose because they would represent the most dangerous scenario,” Fidan said, adding that Turkey has initiated talks with Kurdish leaders to prevent such a “historical mistake.” Fidan refused to comment on mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, merely stating that Turkey has been involved in “intense diplomatic activity” to produce a “formula to end this war.”
