New York (New York, USA), 24 February (LaPresse/AP) – The United States is recovering from the worst snowstorm in a decade, which mainly affected the north of the country. More than 61 centimetres of snow fell in the north-east, while Rhode Island saw more than 91 centimetres, surpassing the record of 72.6 centimetres set during the historic storm of 1978. This morning, roads began to reopen, public transport resumed in some cities, and power was restored to some of the hundreds of thousands of people who had been without it in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware and Rhode Island. Amtrak cancelled some trains between Boston and New York and between New York and Philadelphia. In New York City, where classes were cancelled yesterday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that schools would reopen for in-person classes today, despite the snow still piled up along the pavements. Districts on Long Island and in other areas of the New York suburbs, however, announced that schools would remain closed again today.
