Gaza, EU: ‘Doubts remain about the Board of Peace’

Brussels, 9 February (LaPresse) – “Our position on the Board of Peace is very clear and has not changed. We have a number of questions about various elements of the Board of Peace’s statute relating to its scope, governance and compatibility with the United Nations Charter. We are ready to work with the United States on the implementation of the comprehensive peace plan for Gaza, with the Board of Peace carrying out its transitional administration mission in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and we are actively engaging with the United States on how we can jointly achieve this goal.” This was stated by European External Action Service spokesperson Anoual El Anouni in the daily press briefing, reiterating ‘the strong commitment to the two-state solution’. When asked whether the EU will send a representative to the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace scheduled for 19 February in Washington, the spokesperson replied that he would have to check but reiterated that ‘our position has not changed’ and ‘if we have anything else to add, we will be happy to communicate it’.
