Milan–Cortina, Vance to U.S. athletes: “The whole country is cheering for you”

Milan, Feb. 5 (LaPresse) – U.S. Vice President JD Vance, in Milan with his family for the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Games, met with the U.S. athletes, telling them that the competition “is one of the few things that unites the entire country.” Vance, who will attend today’s preliminary game between the U.S. women’s hockey team and the Czech Republic, told the athletes that this trip is one of the highlights of his term. “The whole country – Democrats, Republicans, independents – is cheering for you and encouraging you,” he said. Vance also shared that his wife “is not a sports fan,” but “obsessively forces us to watch the Olympics” every two years, citing this as proof of how the competition “truly unites the country. Everyone is rooting for you and supporting you.”
