USA: at least 11 dead due to snow and ice storm

Turin, 26 January (LaPresse) – At least 11 people have died as a result of the snow and ice storm that has hit the United States, while the lowest temperatures of the season are expected to persist throughout the week. According to CNN, over 800,000 households are currently without electricity. Entire communities are in the dark and without heating after the frost damaged power lines. Nearly 90 million citizens are under extreme cold weather alerts. According to the Weather Prediction Centre, the technical body of NOAA, the US federal agency that deals with atmospheric phenomena, snow has exceeded 30 centimetres in 15 states.
