USA, National Defence Strategy: ‘Defence of our country is the top priority’

Turin, 24 January (LaPresse) – “The top priority of the US armed forces is to defend the homeland of the United States. The Department will therefore prioritise this objective, including by defending American interests throughout the Western Hemisphere.‘ This is stated in the guidelines of the new National Defence Strategy, released by the Pentagon. ’We will ensure US military and commercial access to key terrain, particularly the Panama Canal, the Gulf of America and Greenland,” the document explains. ‘We will engage in good faith with our neighbours, from Canada to our partners in Central and South America, but we will ensure that they respect and do their part in defending our shared interests.’ ‘Where this does not happen,’ it is emphasised, ‘we will be prepared to take targeted and decisive action that concretely advances US interests.’
