Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti wins early elections: ‘New government soon’

Rome, 29 Dec. (LaPresse) – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti won Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Kosovo. His Vetevendosje party won half of the votes, marking the possible end of a year-long political stalemate. Immediately after the results were announced, Kurti said he would quickly form a new government. This is the second vote this year in Kosovo, after Kurti’s Vetevendosje party failed to win a majority in February. Months of failed coalition talks prompted President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve parliament in November and call early elections. Kurti’s party was in the lead with 49.3% of the vote, after 99% of the ballots had been counted. ‘Once the results are certified, we should quickly establish parliament and then immediately form a new government. We have no time to lose and must proceed as quickly
