Milan, 18 Nov. (LaPresse) – The head of the Asian Affairs Office of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Masaaki Kanai, met with his Chinese counterpart Liu Jinsong in Beijing, amid heightened tensions between Japan and China over Taiwan, following statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. This was reported by the Japanese press. On 7 November, Takaichi said that China’s use of force in Taiwan could constitute “a threat to the survival” of Japan, requiring the use of force, sparking Beijing’s anger. Through the talks, Tokyo aims to ease the diplomatic dispute.
