Ukraine, Moscow: ‘Kiev attacks nuclear power plant in Russia’

Milan, 14 November (LaPresse) – Auxiliary electrical equipment at the Russian nuclear power plant in Novovoronezh was damaged by a drone attack overnight. This was reported today by the governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev. ‘According to the latest information, a drone attack on the night of 13 November damaged auxiliary electrical equipment at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant,’ reads a message on Telegram, ‘air defence and electronic warfare systems in service at Novovoronezh destroyed eight unmanned aerial vehicles. The crash of one of the drones damaged electrical equipment near the plant.’ , Interfax reported. According to Gusev, several power units were automatically disconnected from the grid. Another unit at the nuclear power plant continued to operate normally at full capacity. The CEO of Rosatom, the Russian atomic energy company, Alexei Likhachev, blamed Ukraine for the attack. ‘The night before last, about eight drones were directed towards the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant. They were all neutralised and shot down,’ Likhachev said, “however, some debris fell and damaged the main electrical panel. To prevent potential accidents, three units of the plant were disconnected from the grid and reduced to less than 50% of their power. Repairs and restoration work were completed very quickly. And by 11 a.m. yesterday morning, the plant was back to its full design capacity and continued to generate electricity.”
