EU, von der Leyen: “New ambitious and dynamic budget, promoting synergies”

Brussels, Nov. 10 (LaPresse) – “The current EU budget was designed for a world that no longer exists. Demands on the EU are higher than ever, and the size of the EU budget must be commensurate with the Union’s growing responsibilities. However, resources are limited. National budgets are under pressure and cannot tackle cross-border challenges on their own.” This was written by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her letter on the European budget. “The joint loan supporting NextGenerationEU will have to be repaid in the coming years. For this reason, last July the Commission proposed an ambitious EU budget for an ambitious Europe, providing Europe with the means to respond to a rapidly changing world and translate shared ambitions into concrete action. This dynamic, long-term budget, fit for the future, will enable us to achieve more for every euro invested. As global change intensifies, EU policies are increasingly interconnected. It is therefore essential to promote synergies to maximize the impact of EU spending,” he stresses.
