Washington (USA), Nov. 5 (LaPresse) – To end the government shutdown, Donald Trump has once again called for the elimination of the “filibuster,” the Senate rule on obstructionism that requires a qualified majority of 60 votes to approve spending bills and other key measures. “We must put an end to the filibuster,” the president told senators gathered at the White House for a meeting. “And it’s possible you won’t do it, and I’ll respect your wishes. You’re very smart people. We’re good friends. But I think it’s a tremendous mistake. It would be a tragic mistake,” Trump said. Republican senators have already expressed opposition to unilaterally scrapping the procedure, fearing that Democrats could do the same in the future.
