New York (USA), 18 October (LaPresse/AP) – US President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of former US MP George Santos, who was due to serve more than seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to fraud and identity theft. One of Santos’ lawyers told the New York Post on Friday evening that the former congressman was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, New Jersey, at around 11 p.m. The New York Republican was sentenced in April after admitting last year that he had deceived donors and stolen the identities of 11 people, including members of his family, to make donations to his election campaign.
