Gaza, Sánchez: “Recognition of Palestine favors moderates, not Hamas”

Madrid (Spain), Sept. 26 (LaPresse) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in an interview with ABC News, said he disagrees with U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that the recognition of the State of Palestine would be a reward for Hamas. “When it is said that this is a prize for Hamas, Hamas is being credited with an influence it does not have. What we are actually doing, by recognizing the status of the State of Palestine, is strengthening the moderates within Palestinian society. So it is exactly the opposite,” said the Socialist leader. “If you listen to what Palestinian Authority President Abbas has stated, he has asked the Israeli people to end the war and to start a political process to establish the peace and security needed by the Israeli people and, of course, by Palestinian citizens,” he added.
