Cairo (Egypt), Sept. 19 (LaPresse) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group in Sudan, killed 43 civilians in a drone attack that struck a mosque in El Fasher, North Darfur, during Friday morning prayers. The Sudan Doctors Network denounced the attack as an “atrocious crime” against unarmed civilians, specifying that Muslim worshippers, including the elderly and children, were killed. The El Fasher Resistance Committees, a group of local community members including human rights activists monitoring abuses, released a video showing the mosque reduced to rubble. The Associated Press could not independently verify the footage. No details were provided about the exact location of the mosque. The city has been the scene of intense fighting between the RSF and the army, which since April 2023 has escalated into a civil war. The conflict between the army and the RSF intensified in April 2023, escalating into a civil war that, according to the World Health Organization, has caused at least 40,000 deaths, displaced another 12 million people, and pushed many others to the brink of famine.
