Turkish leader makes implicit threat to longtime neighbor, rival
(LaPresse) “We call on Greece to stop arming the islands” in the Aegean “which have no military status and to act in line with international agreements,” said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the final day of Turkish military exercises near Smyrna, on the Aegean coast of Turkey.
“I’m not joking, I’m serious. This nation is determined,” he added.
“We warn Greece to keep away from dreams and actions that it will regret and come to its senses,” Erdogan continued. “Turkey will not give up its rights in the Aegean, in the same way that it will not shirk from using its rights deriving from international agreements.”
