Football returns to the war torn country as Syrians seek a sense of peace
(LaPresse) – In Idlib, Syria, renovations are underway on a soccer stadium heavily damaged by shelling in the war between the Assad regime’s army and anti-government forces that has ravaged the country. The northwestern city remains one of the rebel strongholds but the regional government has put in place the renovation of the facility, which now has an artificial turf field. The stadium had been requisitioned by the government and used for military purposes but will now return to sports use. The official opening is expected by the end of the year.
