Confindustria, Pope: “Businesses create jobs.”

Confindustria in audience with the Pope at the association’s annual assembly held at the Vatican. From the Holy See, President Carlo Bonomi made an appeal to politics, “Work, not subsidies that discourage it.” The Pontiff for his part called on entrepreneurs to “create work,” especially for young people.

Pope: “Businesses create jobs especially for young people”

“Young people need your trust, and you need young people, because businesses without young people lose innovation, energy, enthusiasm. Work has always been a form of wealth communion: by hiring people you are already distributing your goods, you are already creating shared wealth. Every new job created is a slice of dynamically shared wealth. Therein also lies the centrality of work in the economy and its great dignity. Today technology risks making us forget this great truth, but if the new capitalism creates wealth without then creating work, this great good function of wealth goes into crisis.” Thus Pope Francis speaking to the public assembly of Confindustria in audience in the Aula Nervi.

Pope: “Taxes are sharing and the heart of the social pact”

“Taxes and fees” are “a form of sharing that is often not understood. The tax pact is the heart of the social pact. Taxes are also a form of sharing wealth so that it becomes a common good, a public good: schooling, health, rights, care, science, heritage. Of course, taxes must be fair, equitable, set according to each person’s ability to pay, as the Italian Constitution states. The tax system and administration must be efficient and not corrupt. But taxes should not be regarded as usurpation. They are a high form of sharing goods, they are the heart of the social pact.” Thus Pope Francis speaking at the public assembly of Confindustria in audience in the Aula Nervi.

Bonomi to Pope: “Aware of our duties toward society”

“We are aware of our duties toward society. We have no claim to be perfect. And to you, Holy Father, we turn to increase our good will and our concrete efforts, but also and above all to help us correct our mistakes.” Thus Confindustria President Carlo Bonomi in his greeting to Pope Francis at the Vatican audience.

“We live and operate in an Italy that in our eyes shows it has too often lost the ability to share and unite on fundamental values. A country lost, divided, unjust with too many of its children and with its gaze crushed on the needs of the present. That is why, Your Holiness, we strongly desired this meeting.” These were the words with which the president of Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, greeted Pope Francis during the assembly of the industrialists’ trade association, which is being held at the Vatican this year. Also present was the pontiff, who said entrepreneurs “are an essential component in building the common good, a primary engine of development and prosperity.” Addressing the audience, he said, “This time is not an easy time, for you and for everyone. The business world is also suffering greatly. The pandemic has strained so many productive activities, the whole economic system has been hurt. And now the war in Ukraine with the energy crisis that is ensuing has been added. In these crises the good entrepreneur also suffers, who has the responsibility for his company, for jobs, who feels the uncertainties and risks on himself.” He added, “The same money can be used, yesterday as today, to betray and sell a friend or to save a victim. We see it every day, when the money of Judas and the money of the Good Samaritan coexist in the same markets, in the same stock exchanges, in the same squares. The economy grows and becomes humane when the Samaritans’ deniers become more numerous than Judas’.”

Confindustria in udienza dal Papa in occasione dell’assemblea annuale dell’associazione tenutasi in Vaticano. Dalla Santa Sede il presidente Carlo Bonomi ha lanciato un appello alla politica: “Lavoro, non sussidi che lo scoraggiano”. Il Pontefice, da parte sua, ha invitato gli imprenditori a “creare lavoro”, soprattutto per i giovani.

Papa: “Le imprese creino lavoro soprattutto per i giovani”

“I giovani hanno bisogno della vostra fiducia, e voi avete bisogno dei giovani, perché le imprese senza i giovani perdono innovazione, energia, entusiasmo. Il lavoro è sempre stato una forma di comunione di ricchezza: assumendo persone state già distribuendo i vostri beni, state già creando ricchezza condivisa. Ogni nuovo posto di lavoro creato è una fetta di ricchezza dinamicamente condivisa. Anche qui sta la centralità del lavoro nell’economia e la sua grande dignità. Oggi la tecnologia rischia di farci dimenticare questa grande verità, ma se il nuovo capitalismo crea ricchezza senza poi creare lavoro, questa grande funzione buona della ricchezza va in crisi”. Così Papa Francesco parlando all’assemblea pubblica di Confindustria in udienza nell’Aula Nervi.

Papa: “Le tasse sono condivisione e cuore del patto sociale”

“Le tasse e le imposte” sono “una forma di condivisione che spesso non viene compresa. Il patto fiscale è il cuore del patto sociale. Le tasse sono anche una forma di condivisione della ricchezza affinché diventi un bene comune, un bene pubblico: scuola, salute, diritti, assistenza, scienza, patrimonio. Naturalmente le tasse devono essere giuste, eque, stabilite in base alla capacità contributiva di ciascuno, come recita la Costituzione italiana. Il sistema fiscale e l’amministrazione devono essere efficienti e non corrotti. Ma le tasse non devono essere considerate un’usurpazione. Sono una forma alta di condivisione dei beni, sono il cuore del patto sociale”. Così Papa Francesco intervenendo all’assemblea pubblica di Confindustria in udienza nell’Aula Nervi.

Bonomi al Papa: “Consapevoli dei nostri doveri verso la società”

“Siamo consapevoli dei nostri doveri verso la società. Non abbiamo la pretesa di essere perfetti. E a Lei, Santo Padre, ci rivolgiamo per accrescere la nostra buona volontà e i nostri sforzi concreti, ma anche e soprattutto per aiutarci a correggere i nostri errori”. Così il presidente di Confindustria Carlo Bonomi nel suo saluto a Papa Francesco durante l’udienza in Vaticano.

“Viviamo e operiamo in un’Italia che ai nostri occhi dimostra di aver perso troppo spesso la capacità di condividere e unirsi su valori fondamentali. Un Paese smarrito, diviso, ingiusto con troppi dei suoi figli e con lo sguardo schiacciato sulle esigenze del presente. Ecco perché, Santità, abbiamo fortemente voluto questo incontro”. Queste le parole con cui il presidente di Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, ha salutato Papa Francesco durante l’assemblea dell’associazione di categoria degli industriali, che quest’anno si tiene in Vaticano. Presente anche il pontefice, che ha detto che gli imprenditori “sono una componente essenziale nella costruzione del bene comune, un motore primario di sviluppo e di prosperità”. Rivolgendosi alla platea, ha detto: “Questo non è un momento facile, per voi e per tutti. Anche il mondo degli affari sta soffrendo molto. La pandemia ha messo a dura prova tante attività produttive, l’intero sistema economico è stato danneggiato. E ora si è aggiunta la guerra in Ucraina con la conseguente crisi energetica. In queste crisi soffre anche il buon imprenditore, che ha la responsabilità della sua azienda, dei posti di lavoro, che sente su di sé le incertezze e i rischi”. E ha aggiunto: “Lo stesso denaro può essere usato, ieri come oggi, per tradire e vendere un amico o per salvare una vittima. Lo vediamo ogni giorno, quando il denaro di Giuda e quello del buon samaritano convivono negli stessi mercati, nelle stesse borse, nelle stesse piazze. L’economia cresce e diventa umana quando i denari dei Samaritani diventano più numerosi di quelli di Giuda”.
